How Early Can I Mow My Lawn?

How Early Can I Mow My Lawn?

Living in a home with neighbors creates a sense of safety, community, and peace of mind. On the downside, being so close in proximity to others means that you have to be considerate and mindful of how much noise you make.Yard work is most assuredly one of the noisiest activities you can do outside. It’s no wonder that we are commonly asked, “How early can I mow my lawn?”

In many places in North Texas, there is no law regulating when yard work should start and end. On the other hand, it is generally unacceptable to start yard work before 7 a.m. We highly recommend following this general rule of thumb for the sake of being neighborly. At the same time, there are scientific reasons not to perform yard work in the morning’s wee hours. Knowing these reasons can help you avoid wear and tear on your mower, while not disrupting your neighbors.

Different Times To Mow During The Day

As stated earlier, the time you can start mowing is up to your neighbors’ discretion and understanding. Some people want to mow before work at 8 a.m., and others aim for 8 to 10 a.m. Here are the pros and cons of mowing your lawn at different times throughout the day.

HOW EARLY CAN I MOW MY LAWN?

6 To 8 A.M.

For one, the 6 to 8 a.m. mower has to deal with wet and dewy grass that is likely to “rip” the grass with the lawnmower and bruise it. It is highly probable that your lawnmower will produce clumps, leave tracks, and cause the grass to mat up. All these lead to further problems like leaving your lawn out for the reaping by mold and fungus. For your neighbors, lawn, and mower, before 8 a.m. is probably not the most preferred time for lawn mowing.

8 To 10 A.M.

One of the best times to mow, on the other hand, is from 8 to 10 a.m. when the grass has dried and is standing tall. This makes the grass perfect for cutting evenly—rather than ripping. At this time, you won’t have to worry about upsetting your neighbors since nearly all will be at work or awake.

10 A.M. To 4 P.M.

You might think you can avoid the whole question by mowing safely in the middle of the day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Although mowing in the afternoon is just as appropriate, it may come with some kinks. The biggest kink is lawn stress. The middle of the day is the hottest time of the day. You and your lawn can quickly start to feel the effects of heat stress. Moreover, your grass can experience even more stress if it isn’t mowed at the right height. Professional companies keep these factors in mind when mowing in the middle of the day.

5 To 8 P.M.

Another ordinary time to mow your lawn is from 5 to 8 p.m. This is because the temperature has dropped. Plus, the mower’s blades will take less of a toll on your grass, giving your grass time to recover before sunset. It might also be the best time to mow to protect your neighbors from a noise disturbance. If you’re mowing your lawn in the summer heat, it’s a good idea to start later in the evening when the day cools off.
